Central and East Region ATC, RAF Brampton

- Browsing
Score: 8/10
- Comments:
This site has good links to the wider Corps community, as well as dates affecting competitions etc at Regional level.
This is a great shop-front to one of the busiest Regions in the Corps, currently under Group Captain John Ford, a former fighter pilot. The most useful information does seem to be the very much up to date set of events and corresponding arrangements (and if you ever get called to a Region event, you've done very well, best not turn up late..)

This site is ultra functional. If you can't find
it here, give up.
Our local
administrative HQ at RAF Halton, Aylesbury. This
site is by far the most comprehensive information
site concerning what is going on in our Wing and
general area. Details of sports competitions, BTEC
awards, key personnel and contact details etc are
all here. The site is of significant interest to
our NCOs who are keen to harvest more of the opportunities
(eg last minute shooting details at Halton etc)
open to interested Squadrons.

Official Air Cadet Website, RAFC Cranwell

- Comments:
Given this is the shrine of the ACO, it's rather
tame. If you're looking for down to earth Squadron
reality, try looking for a local unit's website.
The
Air Cadet Organisation site, based at RAFC Cranwell,
the window of the greatest air youth organisation
in the world! This site seems to be there to cover
any Squadrons without their own. All the basic info
on what you can do in cadets is here, albeit in
a rather succinct (ie brief and rather to the point)
manner. It should be noted we did in fact rob a
graphic off their front page for ours..

The site appears aimed at an information seeking
audience (as if it was built for people researching
their Sixth Form Scholarship interview material).
Obviously
designed by the people who built the ACO's website,
this one is actually looked after, is very much
up to date, and is easily navigable. It remains
more functional than 'exciting' (see RNs site) but
is still aesthetic. Lots of information about the
RAF's aircraft, training systems and general management
structure. If you actually are looking for info
for an RAF Career's Interview.. try the Ministry
of Defence for the latest bigger picture news.

Absolutely kick-butt website, brilliant graphics,
great insight. A real seducer.
Top
marks for whoever paid up for this one, money well spent. A lot of thought has
gone into layout and order, and obviously the (professional) designers
have had free access to the massive MOD photographic
library. Really inspiring, the best possible presentation
of the Royal Air Force as an exciting and satisfying
career choice. Join today! (..unless you're going
down your grans).

If you could ever justify getting that close to
the pongos, it would be nice to know something
about them. Start here.
Interesting,
to say the least. This must be the smallest branch
of the British airborne forces, but the coolest
part of the Army. If you ever took complete leave
of one's senses and opted to join said British Army,
your only salvation might be an immediate transfer
to the Army Air Corps. Mainly helicopters, their
basic mission are observation and communication
orientated. Just remember, 'flying is flying,' whether
you are 10' above the treeline being aimed at by
anything from BB Guns with the Army, or flying at
20,000 at Mach 2.2 with the RAF. The choice might be yours..

If you thought making sailors look cool was impossible,
check this site out.
Without
doubt the style equal to the RAF Careers website.
Obviously built by expensive commercial marketeers,
everything shouts "Lights, Camera, Action!" It is Grade A quality, built from the very
latest animation software.. it whets
your appetite and would definately draw you in (if
it wasn't all about sailors). All the action, very
much a still version of the dynamic TV/Cinema adverts..
"The Team Works" (on websites, at least).

If you're interested in becoming a rocket scientist,
ignite your interest here. The home of aerospace
engineering, NASA has a hand in everything. This
is the well put together Education section.
The
mother of all websites, this is the entrance to
the 'Tora Bora' of cyber space. You could be in
here for days and no one would know where to find
you. You can wander from 'how to build a wind tunnel'
through to 'built your own thin film solar panels.'
If you're interested in a career in making things
that improves the quality of peoples' lives, drives
economies forwards and helps ensure our security
and safety, then this is a wonderful place to see
what's happening up at the sharp end of professional
Engineering. A flawless site.

Very old institution motivated by propelling British
interests in Aviation. A serious lobby for our

There are various local branches of the RAeS around,
the closest active one being Hatfield.

Fantastic organisation geared to getting as many
young people into the sky as possible (without
use of circus cannon). They offer flying scholarships
and engineering bursaries, with selection made
through Adastral House at RAF Cranwell.
Brilliant organisation.. when the RAF cut back it's Flying Scholarship scheme to what is now a few basic hours training, the Air League made an allocation of it's own Scholarships available exclusively for members of the Air Cadet Organisation. Take you time and have a look around this site, you're bound to find an opportunity that will seriously benefit you.

The UK College of Aeronautics is based here.
Cranfield is almost exclusively a post-graduate university, which means it's something to think about after you have finished an undergraduate degree elsewhere. It was once quoted that Cranfield makes more money from research and development grants, patents, licences etc than the combined income of Oxford and Cambridge, a testament to the value this cutting edge industry puts on academia. And yet it is one of the best kept secrets in the country. Set up at the end of the war to ensure Britain never comes as close to loosing an air war again as we had just done, it is now home to offices of BAE and various weapons designers. Well worth a visit, if only to see the busiest GA airport in the UK operate.

Exam Training Links
Nuneaton Sqn Exam Training Resource Library
All ATC Training Folders, and exam simulators (past papers). To pass the ATC exams, you have to put in a reasonable amount of effort. This shouldn't detract from your daily school obligations, but you should make the effort to put in an hour each evening for the week or two preceeding the exams. Your chancing of passing the exams are greatly increased by using the exam simulators here on the Nuneaton website. Their Sqn has one of the highest pass rates in the Region. Try to work through the questions, noting any areas of difficulty, and bring the questions to HQ to get explained by the staff or NCOs.
